What we handle
Interpleader first, and the claims that lead to it
Interpleader lawsuits
When an insurer, bank, brokerage or plan cannot safely pay because two or more people claim the money, it deposits the money with a court and names every claimant. We represent claimants from the answer through judgment or settlement, and we know how fast default deadlines can end a claim.
How interpleader worksBeneficiary disputes
Former spouses, last-minute changes, forged forms, capacity, undue influence, slayer claims and minors.
Denied claims
Contestability and misrepresentation, exclusions, ERISA appeals, and FEGLI and SGLI.
Delayed claims
Contestability reviews, open cause-of-death questions, competing claims, and interest on late payments.
Accidental death (AD&D)
Denials based on illness, intoxication, overdose and other exclusions, and what counts as an accident.
How it works
From first call to payment
- Free review. Tell us what happened. We look at the policy or plan, the beneficiary forms, any court papers and the deadlines, at no cost.
- A plan in writing. If we can help, we explain the strategy and the fee arrangement in a written agreement before any work begins.
- We do the work. We gather the insurer's file and the evidence, file your claim in court or with the plan, and handle the litigation or negotiation.
- The money is paid. Cases end with a court order or a settlement directing payment of the funds.

Quick answers
What is an interpleader lawsuit?
A lawsuit a life insurer or other stakeholder files when two or more people claim the same money. The insurer deposits the benefit with the court and asks a judge to decide who is entitled to it.
I was served with an interpleader complaint. What should I do first?
Note the answer deadline on the summons. In federal court it is generally 21 days after service. A claimant who does not answer can lose the claim by default, so talk to an attorney promptly.
Who gets life insurance when an ex-spouse is still the named beneficiary?
It depends on the state, the date of the divorce, the divorce papers and whether the coverage is an employer plan or a federal program. Many states revoke a former spouse’s designation at divorce, but not all statutes reach older divorces, and ERISA plans can override them.
What does a case review cost?
Nothing. We review your situation at no cost. If we take your case, there is no fee unless we recover benefits for you, and we explain the fee arrangement in a written agreement before we begin work.
